Tyler is Crawling!
We had a nice weekend visiting with Grandpa Mark and Grandma Jackie (nana? nanny?) Tyler had his first big spill, face-first into pebbles. He was a little scratched up but otherwise a-ok. He also began crawling, just a little bit :) He gets tired easily but it won't be long before he's buzzing across the house!
He only crawls (so far) when there's something he wants just out of his reach. The usual culprit is trying to grab a remote control or knocking over his cups! Here he is beginning the trek....

Weekend at Home
We had a low-key weekend at home for once (thank goodness)! Dad finished up his rotation of working nights, so we're thrilled to be on the same sleeping schedule again- it was lonely without him. Tyler is doing much better than he was earlier this week. Though he still has a lingering runny nose and cough, at least the green goop is gone and the purple under the eyes has faded (from the sinus infection- who knew babies got purple bags with sinus infections, the way adults get dark bags when sleep deprived)??
We don't have much fun to report. Mom got a flu shot (Tyler to follow once healthy again). Tyler and mom went to the farmer's market Saturday morning and bought lots of local veggies, baked goods, and pastas. We'll have to go back on another Saturday when dad can go with us- it was fun, but not as cool as Lexington's farmer's market :( OH- and on Sunday, we (the adults) stained and sealed the back deck... the big accomplishment for the weekend!
Mostly we spent the weekend wiping snot and practicing standing up. It is by far Tyler's favorite thing to do- he gets so excited and proud of himself!!
Chewing on the sippy cup (water is no fun to drink) while standing up
This looks like we're having WAY more fun than we actually were. Tyler's not so sure about his new horsey toy. Probably because his legs aren't quite long enough to both touch the ground on either side, so his balance is very iffy. He definately can't be more than a few inches away from us while on this for now!!

Sick again :(
Tyler returned to the pediatrician on Tuesday... he has a sinus infection. He's home from daycare, getting much needed love and attention from grandma Jackie! He already looks better- the antibiotics and nebulizer should have us back to normal in no time. Hopefully mom won't end up with a sinus infection (like last time) as well!

Alex's 16th Birthday
We had a fantastic time in Kitty Hawk this weekend- a surprise visit for Alex's 16th birthday!!! We loved watching him in the football game- he was one of the star defensive players!! We were also excited that Tyler was able to meet Jennifer and Steve for the first time- they were visiting from Lexington to surprise Alex for his birthday as well! Pa Joe was amazed by how much Tyler had grown since he last saw him many months ago. Thanks to all our family for an amazing weekend!
Tyler just LOVED playing in the pool. There is no doubt we've got quite the water baby on our hands. Overall, we had a great time with our last minute plans this weekend :)

7 Months Old
Tyler turned 7 months old on Sunday! Mom planned a fun afternoon outside (so dad could have some peace inside to study)- but nothing went as planned!! Tyler usually loves to get his hands in things, so I thought we'd start by playing with paint. He was not interested in the slightest after about 10 seconds!! He was much happier playing with grass blades, looking for where the bird chirps were coming from, and hearing the cars go by. Paint? Not cool enough! Then I'd hoped for a long time in the baby pool, but with the overcast day the water felt too cold without the sun to warm him up. He got in for about 45 seconds, and then started shivering!! And that was that!

Dad's turn to paint, as if he wasn't dirty enough already!
"Peat #1"... dad's handiwork!
Attempt to play, but really just a quick wash-off session.

Sunday evening Winston, Kristin, and Becky stopped by on their way home from Annapolis visiting Lindsey. Winston and Tyler had fun playing together, though Tyler was a bit subdued and out of it- past his bedtime! In this picture they're both reaching to see who can knock over the cups first. (I think Winston won!)

Back to the daily grind :(
After a lovely vacation week in Atlantic Beach, it's back to work time. All good things must come to an end...
A last look at the ocean on Saturday before packing it up. It may be quite awhile before we see the sands again...
A special thanks to Uncle Brett for making the trip to come see us this past weekend. Sorry we woke you up earlier than you're used to :P

1st Aquarium Visit
We've been having a nice week at the beach. Tyler has definately been more fussy than ususal (or is it just because we're spending more time with him than usual)?? He's been very resistant to napping- I think we've ruined his regular schedule. Daycare is going to be unhappy when he returns!
This is the only way I could get him to nap- taking him for a walk in the stroller on the beach and then letting him sleep it out. He would sleep for over two hours this way- but it would be his only nap of the day. Clearly he needed another one- but would scream bloody murder when put in the pack and play :(
Our first trip to the NC Aquarium!! Tyler was enthralled by some of the fish- these trout behind us in particular! Other things he didn't seem too interested in. We'll have to return in a few years!

Beach Week 2009
Tyler has been on an emotional rollercoaster during our vacation ;P. Early on he was cranky from a round of vaccinations, and he's been fighting a nasty runny nose and cold. I think he fought his way back from the vaccinations by Sunday evening or Monday morning, but he's been left with a runny nose mess. It's so bad he has difficulty eating and sleeping. Today I finally gave up and called the pediatrician to get a prescription of Atarax called into the Rite Aid here in NC (I meant to bring ours from home, but forgot-- very unfortunately). After waiting most of the day for the prescription to actually be called in (the pediatric office was apparantely SO busy today they couldn't find the 30 seconds it takes to make a phone call) we finally have some relief for Tyler. Hopefully we'll be on the mend from here on out.
Buried in the sand by daddy!! So much fun getting dirty! This was at Shackelford Banks after a ride on the big boat curtesty of Grandpa Mark.
The aftermath of the faceplant. One unhappy baby.

6 month well-baby visit
Tyler had his six month well baby visit on Friday (at 6 1/2 months)! We got the much-awaited "stats" on Tyler's growth:
Weight- 18 pounds, 7 ounces (75%)
Height- 27 1/2 inches (75%)
We have confirmed-- he is HEAVY!! Mom is exhausted these days carrying him around! But he is happy and healthy, and the pediatrician assured us he is right on track developmentally. He can now sit upright unassisted, and can stand with help. He can't go from laying to sitting by himself yet, but I suspect we're not too far away. He can also turn 360 degrees on the floor (quickly!) but I doubt will be doing a true crawl for quite a few more weeks. I have been wrong on timing issues before, so I'll let you know if we get surprised by some quick changes! Stay tuned...
